IPM provides Volunteer Training and Mentor Training seminars
for churches and ministries at their locations.

Instructor:
Dr. Karen Swanson, the Director of the Institute for Prison Ministries at the Billy Graham Center, Wheaton College.  She has over 25 years of teaching experience.  She has taught in jails, prisons and worked in reentry.  Her doctoral degree is in Education with an emphasis in curriculum leadership.

 

Volunteer Training
 

Providing Competent Correctional Ministry helps prepare volunteers for effective in-prison ministry. 

Topics covered include:
  • A Biblical View of Correctional Ministry
  • Effective Volunteers
  • Criminal Justice System and Corrections
  • Safety and Security Issues
  • Understanding Inmates and Criminal Thinking
  • Ministry Opportunities
  • Sharing the Gospel without proselytising
  • Resources

Cost:  $20 per student.  Each student receives a notebook.

Location:  Host church or ministry

Requirements:  A minimum of 20 students is required.

Mentor Training

Transition Coach Training is a six-hour seminar designed to provide a foundation for mentoring.  Additional topics include helping people transition out of poverty and evidence-based practice of motivational interviewing (helping people become internally motivated to change behaviors).

Topics covered include:

  • Foundations of Transition Coaching
  • Transitioning Out of Poverty
  • Motivational Interviewing (An evidence-based practice)
  • Coaching Tools include:  Transition Coach Participation Agreement, Confidentiality Policy, Reentry Plan

Cost:  $30 per student.  Each student receives a notebook.

Location:  Host church or ministry

Requirements:  A minimum of 20 students is required.
